New employees must successfully complete a nine-month probationary period prior to obtaining permanent status in this classification. An employee in this position will be required to join the union within 30 days of hire. This position is covered by a Labor Agreement between The City of Tacoma and IBEW Local 483. Applicants must obtain a passing score to be ranked on the eligible list for interview and hiring consideration.Īppointment is subject to passing a background check and a pre-employment medical exam and drug screen. Selection Process & Supplemental InformationĪpplicants who meet the minimum qualifications will have their responses to the Supplemental Questions scored by an evaluation committee. Receive emergency calls during regular, off-duty or week-end hours and dispatch appropriate crews.Prepare and maintain various department records and reports including daily activity records prepare annual budget.Supervise, interview, select, train and discipline assigned personnel.Contact various departments, contractors, outside utilities and agencies to coordinate work activities and to provide and receive information and services.Determine equipment, material and tool requirements for projects and maintenance activities prepare specifications for the acquisition of equipment, tools and materials.Plan and implement training programs for subordinates attend training committee meetings observe and implement proper safety practices.Review and interpret engineering drawings and work orders implement field changes as necessary.Schedule work priorities, crew composition and material and equipment requirements.Monitor work and implement changes as necessary perform on-site inspections and supervision of field crews oversee and monitor traffic signal controller shop on revisions and modifications of electromechanical and solid state control circuits.Plan and assign work for the installation, modification, maintenance and repair of traffic signal and street lighting systems and related facilities.Oversee and direct the operation and maintenance functions of the City's traffic signal and street lighting systems.LICENSES, CERTIFICATES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: QualificationsĪn equivalent combination to: graduation from high school and completion of a recognized electrician apprenticeship program and five years increasingly responsible experience as a journey-level traffic signal and street lighting electrician including experience providing work direction to others.
